It started with two friends and a simple question
How could science feel less intimidating and more useful to Kenyan children?
FunKe Science began in 2013 when two university friends started using simple experiments to make scientific ideas easier to understand. They joined C4D Lab in 2014, built early prototypes and registered the business in 2017 as parents began asking for take-home kits.
By 2019, FunKe Science clubs were running in Nairobi schools. Funzo Kits launched in 2022 with clearer guides and a refreshed design. In 2024, the team hosted a science festival that brought families, learners and educators together.
The purpose has stayed the same: help children see science as something they can do.
Making science accessible
We use familiar materials and clear guidance to make practical science easier to access. Our kits and free videos support Kenya’s competency-based curriculum while giving children room to ask questions, test ideas, explain results and try again.
At home, in school or in the community, every activity starts with doing.
